Thanksgiving and Prayer.[a] 8 First of all, I give thanks to my God through Jesus Christ for all of you because your faith has been proclaimed throughout the world. 9 For God, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, is the witness on my behalf that I remember you constantly in my prayers, 10 always asking that by God’s will I may somehow be granted my desire of coming to visit you.

- Romans 1:8 Paul acknowledges that he has no authority over the Church of Rome, which he did not found; he presents himself as a simple Christian who wants to be one in faith with his brothers and sisters through mutual instruction and edification. The word non-Greeks (literally, “barbarians”) (v. 14) signifies here that the pagans had not received Greek culture.
